Founded by Ian Campbell in western Canada in 2012, CROOKED MOUTH has developed their own style of post-industrial folk music, blending influences from the original neofolk wave, with the obscurities of 60/70s acid folk, archaic folklore groups, post-punk music, and the contemporary underground. The band has released 7 LPs and various other compilations and EPs, collaborating with labels like House of Inkantation, Neuropa, Brave Mysteries Recording Company, and I, Voidhanger. They now run their own label, Ætheric Recordings.
Since 2022, the band has been based in Vilnius, Lithuania.
Crooked Mouth is a spell against the ailments of the modern and post-modern world. It is music searching for purity of expression, healing, and self-transformation through the spiritual/artistic act. The albums are signposts on a journey. The live performance is ritual and communion. The band draws inspiration from the western esoteric tradition, European paganism, magick, folklore, dreams and of course, the underground music of the 20th and 21st centuries to create a combination of acoustic and electric music that resonates equal parts melancholy and reverie. The band is equally at home in a club, on a festival stage, or under a sacred oak tree.
